Metrivo vs Fathom Analytics

Fathom helped invent privacy-first analytics, and it's still one of the best at it: a ~2KB cookieless script, data kept forever, up to 50 sites on every plan, and a complete engine rebuild (V4) shipped in early 2026. Metrivo isn't trying to build a better Fathom. We built the layer Fathom deliberately doesn't: payment-provider ingestion, session-to-payment attribution, AI-search revenue, funnels, and a leak detector that tells you what to fix first. Here's the honest comparison, including where Fathom wins.

The short version

Fathom counts and keeps your traffic beautifully — forever, across up to 50 sites. But it has no funnels, no payment-processor integration, and no AI traffic labeling, so it can't tell you which source produced which payment or where your signup flow leaks. Metrivo starts at $9/month and does exactly that: Stripe, Razorpay, and Dodo payments attributed to sessions, AI-search revenue separated with evidence, and leaks ranked with fix drafts.

What Fathom genuinely does better

Forever data retention. Every Fathom plan keeps your data with no expiry. Metrivo retains 1, 2, or 5 years depending on plan. If a permanent traffic archive matters to you, Fathom is the clear winner here.

Many sites, one price. Up to 50 sites are included in every Fathom tier. Builders running a portfolio of small sites get enormous value from that.

Lightness and polish.Fathom's ~2KB script is lighter than ours, and the 2026 V4 rebuild added entry/exit pages, accurate time-on-page via departure pings, regex filters, and a Google Search Console integration. It is a mature, actively developed product.

What Fathom doesn't try to do

No funnels, by design.Fathom's model is single-step events and conversions. You can see that 40 people hit your "signed up" event, but not where the other 960 dropped out between landing, pricing, and checkout. Metrivo's funnels carry revenue at each step, and the Revenue Leak Detector ranks the drop-offs by what they cost.

Revenue is self-reported, not ingested.Fathom events can carry a value with per-event currencies — but your code assigns it at conversion time, and that's the end of the story. Renewals, failed payments, and refunds at Stripe never reach Fathom. Metrivo's revenue comes from your payment provider's webhooks (Stripe, Razorpay, Dodo, or the Manual Payment API), so the numbers reconcile and recurring revenue stays attributed.

AI traffic isn't a concept. As of June 2026, Fathom has no AI channel or labeling — notable now that Plausible and even GA4 have shipped one. AI visits show up as ordinary referrers, or vanish into Direct when the referrer is stripped. Metrivo detects 11 named AI sources with per-session evidence, honest confidence labels, and — uniquely — a connection to payments, so you see revenue per AI source rather than a referrer row.

Choose Fathom if

  • You want polished, privacy-first traffic reporting and nothing else.
  • You run many small sites — 50 are included in every plan.
  • Forever data retention matters to you.
  • You don't need funnels or payment-tied attribution.

Choose Metrivo if

  • You sell SaaS and want Stripe, Razorpay, or Dodo payments attributed to sessions automatically.
  • You need multi-step funnels with revenue at each step.
  • You want AI-search referrals detected, labeled with evidence, and tied to revenue.
  • You want the leak found and a fix drafted, not just a dashboard to interpret.

Or run both

Keep Fathom as the permanent traffic record and add Metrivo as the revenue layer. Both trackers are async and cookieless, so they coexist cleanly. Read more on revenue attribution and AI-search attribution.

FAQ

Is Metrivo a Fathom replacement?

Only if your real question is about revenue rather than traffic. Fathom is one of the best pure traffic dashboards ever built — a 2KB script, forever data retention, 50 sites per plan, and a major V4 engine rebuild in early 2026. Metrivo doesn't out-Fathom Fathom. It answers the question Fathom doesn't attempt: which session, source, or AI referral produced which payment, and where revenue is leaking.

Fathom events can carry revenue values. How is Metrivo different?

Fathom lets your own code attach a monetary value to an event when it fires — useful for simple checkouts. But SaaS revenue mostly happens after the click, server-side at your billing provider: trial conversions, renewals, failed payments, refunds. Fathom never sees any of that. Metrivo ingests payment events directly from Stripe, Razorpay, and Dodo webhooks (or the Manual Payment API), so revenue reconciles with your payment provider and recurring payments stay attributed to the session that started them.

Does Fathom have funnels?

No — as of June 2026 there is no funnel feature in Fathom; its model is single-step events and conversions. If you need to see where users drop off between landing page, pricing, signup, and payment, that's a different product category. Metrivo's funnels are multi-step, carry revenue at each step, and feed the Revenue Leak Detector, which ranks drop-offs by the revenue they cost you.

Where does Fathom beat Metrivo?

A few places, plainly. Forever data retention on every plan — Metrivo caps at 3, 4, or 5 years by plan. Fifty sites in every tier. A ~2KB script that's lighter than ours. And a decade of polish on the core traffic dashboard, recently rebuilt as V4 with entry/exit pages, regex filters, and a Google Search Console integration. If you only need traffic reporting, Fathom is excellent and we won't pretend otherwise.

Does Metrivo detect AI traffic that Fathom can't see?

Fathom shows AI referrers like chatgpt.com in its referrer list, but it has no AI channel, labeling, or grouping — and no way to connect AI visits to revenue. Metrivo detects 11 named AI sources using referrer, UTM, and landing-URL evidence, labels each session's confidence, and ties AI sessions to payments. When there's no evidence, traffic stays unknown — we don't relabel Direct traffic as AI to inflate the numbers.

Can I run Fathom and Metrivo together?

Yes. Both scripts can run on the same site. Review the combined data collection and consent configuration for your implementation and jurisdiction. A common split is Fathom as the long-term traffic record and Metrivo as the revenue and AI-attribution layer.
